I love helping people to maximise their potential and thrive. Witnessing that spark of brilliance in others and seeing them ignite it and use it, is why I do what I do.
I have always enjoyed the company, individual complexities and perspectives of a wide range of people.
My early career began in business services accounting and then progressed to other finance roles. Achieving CPA status whilst working in a successful fifteen year period, I delivered high impact outcomes in key corporate roles for numerous multinational and not for profit organisations throughout the world including Melbourne, London, Terni (Italy), Pittsburgh (USA), Beijing and Wollongong. I enjoyed the challenge of being a team player and team leader of individuals from a diverse range of socioeconomic groups, ages, skill sets, personality types and cultural backgrounds.
Despite relishing the opportunity to learn and grow throughout my finance career, my work experiences did not feel connected to my individual purpose. Following the birth of my first child, I chose not to return to the corporate world and instead spent the next few years focused on raising my young children. This turned out to be my most challenging adventure yet and certainly helped further hone my organisational, interpersonal, analytical and motivational skills.
During that time, I completed Certificates III & IV in Personal Training and was inspired to launch a local fitness and personal training business.
I continued to do personal training during a 12 month stint in Beijing. Living the ex-pat life in Beijing was not without its challenges, especially when health and fitness was a major priority. However, the traditional Chinese way of living also provided me with valuable insights and completely reshaped my approach to wellbeing. I learnt about traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Qi Gong, Chinese philosophies (Daoism, Confucianism and Buddhism) and other fascinating components of Chinese culture. Many of these resonated with me and I found ways to incorporate particular rituals into my daily life.
Although I enjoyed personal training and believed I could make a difference to my clients’ lives, I felt there was more I could do to help them achieve sustainable behaviour change. I realised that my clients needed to be in the driver’s seat and make their own choices along the journey. I wanted to empower my clients to be able to envisage their ideal life and help support them to achieve it. Coaching was the only way forward.
The breadth and depth of interaction with others throughout my rich life, along with my ability to ask questions, learn & connect has given me a valuable insight and clarity into what drives people and how they operate. My business acumen, corporate financial awareness and experience of working in complex environments combined with my skills as a coach and mentor, enable me to gain perspective and truly understand the challenges leaders face.
I recently completed a research project on Women Leaders – The Wonders of Women in Leadership – involving in depth interviews with over 35 male and female leaders from CEO, CFO, COO to middle management positions in organisations in the Car Industry, Banks, Private Practice Accounting Firms, Utilities, Financial Services, Heavy Industry, Not-for-Profit, Social Services, Consulting Firms and Entrepreneurs.
The project allowed me to gain a unique, holistic perspective of leaders who are leading at work, and also who leading in life beyond work. The research revealed common themes, challenges, barriers to bust, inspiring words from the wise, life-changing practices, hopes for the future and some interesting outlier insights which have exponential benefits for women leaders, workplaces, families and communities.
I am excited to be using the insights gathered during the research project with my clients, organisations, family and community.
